Music in the Mulga is more than just a music festival, it is a celebration of outback life, community spirit and the enduring appeal of Australian country Music. Held annually in Thargomindah, Southwest Queensland, this four-day event transforms the quiet outback town into a vibrant gathering place where music, friendship and good old fashioned country hospitality take centre stage.

From the moment campers arrive and set up their sites, there is a sense of excitement and camaraderie in the air. Visitors come from all corners of Australia to reconnect with friends, make new ones and immerse themselves in the relaxed atmosphere that has made Music in the Mulga a favourite on the country music calendar.  

Unlike larger commercial festivals, Music in the Mulga retains the charm of a family reunion, where everyone is welcomed with a smile and encouraged to join in the fun.

The heart of the festival is, of course, the music. 

Across the four days, audiences enjoy performances from talented country and country rock artists who bring energy, emotion and plenty of foot-stomping entertainment to the stage. The popular Walk-up sessions showcase the hidden talents of festival-goers, often delivering some of the most memorable moments of the weekend as aspiring musicians step into the spotlight and share their passion for music. 

However, Music in the Mulga offers much more than live performances. Festival favourites such as the charity auction, fashions on the field, best decorated campsite competition and the legendary Yabby Races create plenty of laughter and friendly competition. These uniquely Australian traditions add colour and character to the event, ensuring there is never a dull moment.

As the final performances close and campers begin their journeys home, they leave with more than memories of great music. The depart with renewed friendships, unforgettable experiences and a longing to return the following year.
